“Why We Can Trust the Story of Jesus” Luke 1:1–4

LOOK BACK

  • How can we pray for each other?

Pray for one another’s needs — health, family, work, and for boldness to share Jesus this week.

  • What is the Holy Spirit saying to you? How are you responding?

Each person shares what God has been showing them and how they have obeyed Him since the last gathering.

LOOK UP

Scripture
Luke 1:1–4 (NIV)
Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.

Verse to Memorize and Meditate on Day and Night
So that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught."Luke 1:4

Key Truth

The story of Jesus is true and trustworthy. Luke carefully investigated and recorded real events so that every believer can be certain about what Jesus said and did.

Story to Memorize

Luke wanted his friend Theophilus to know that the story of Jesus is not a rumor but truth. Many people had already written about Jesus, but Luke listened to eyewitnesses — those who saw and heard Jesus themselves. Then, guided by the Holy Spirit, Luke wrote everything carefully in order so that all believers, even generations later, could know the truth about Jesus the Savior.

Act it Out

Have two people act out the story:

  • One plays Luke, writing a letter to his friend Theophilus.

  • The other plays Theophilus, asking, “How do I know this story is true?”
Luke explains how he heard from eyewitnesses, studied carefully, and wrote everything down so others could trust and follow Jesus.
